CMT OPERATIONS SUSPENSION
/All CMT operations are now suspended for the next three weeks. This follows the announcement from the Alberta government today. We will provide updates as they become available.
The Calgary Model Trainmen’s Club, founded in 1938, is an HO scale model railroad club. We have one layout that the members run trains on and we also take it to Supertrain and Heritage Park Railway Days. We are also constructing a second permanent layout at our club location. New members, of all skill levels, are always welcomed to come and join us. We help teach new skills and we give members a chance to hone those skills by working on our two layouts.
Our location is #7-11 Street NE, Calgary near the Calgary Zoo and two blocks away from the Bridgeland-Memorial C-train station. We meet Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 pm to run trains and have train related fellowship. A number of Saturday mornings we also get together to work on the construction and maintenance of our layouts.
You can also contact us in advance or to communicate with us by going to the Contact Us tab.
All CMT operations are now suspended for the next three weeks. This follows the announcement from the Alberta government today. We will provide updates as they become available.
In keeping with the Alberta Government Covid announcement all operations at the club are suspended for the next three weeks. This will be updated once the government has issued an update.
Because of the ongoing Corona Virus situation the President and Directors have decided to suspend CMT club activity until April 15. At that time there will be another announcement about club activities. As with other groups we are sorry to have had to make this decision but everyone’s health and safety is our prime concern. We know that once all of this is over we will be back up and running and welcoming visitors and new members to our club location. Thank you to all for your understanding and consideration.
Due to the ongoing challenges with the Corona Virus and the direction of various levels of government the following actions have taken place.
The Railroad Prototype Modelers slide show and meet for March 13th and 14th have been cancelled.
The CMT Fleamarket and CMRS Mini Meet for March 15th are postponed to a later date. Watch this page for the rescheduled date when it becomes available.
Supertrain 2020 is cancelled. Supertrain 2021 will be April 10 and 11, 2021.
Any other updates will be posted here and on our Facebook page.

Past President and a Director Andy Love
November Business meeting saw awarding of Member of The Year Award. Harvey Tavener received this award in recognition of his endless energy, management of dioramas travelling to different show throughout the years. Well deserved Harvey!
Any club member can receive this award or any club member can nominate another member. The recipient takes home a small plaque while the big one is kept at CMT.
We have lost one of our members, Paul Foster passed away in January. Paul always had a smile on his ace and was instrumental in finding and securing our present layout space in the Rehabilitation Centre.
The annual CMT Post-Christmas brunch was postponed this year due to very, very cold weather. There were 23 slated to enjoy a Brunch in The Strathmore Station Inn and Restaurant. We will wait until the weather warms up.
January 17, 2020 saw 10 club members gather for an afternoon operating session hosted by Brian “layout” Keay. For those who had not visited before, he has 222 engines, 1200 rolling stock. We operated just like the real thing.
CMRS is hosting layout tours February 22-23, 2020. Keep watching your newsletter.

RAILROAD PROTOTYPE MODELERS MEET
FRIDAY - SATURDAY, MARCH 13 - 14, 2020
ST. ANDREWS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
703 HERITAGE DRIVE S.W. CALGARY, ALBERTA
ADMISSION: $10, under 12: FREE
Covers Both Friday and Saturday Sessions
FRIDAY MARCH 13
19:00 - 21:00. Photo Night
Participants are invited to bring 10 to 20 digital images or slides around the theme of modelable subjects. This can include locomotives, cars, structures, bridges, scenery or almost anything else. The idea is to inspire someone to build a model. We will have a computer and digital projector so bring your photos on a thumb drive. We will even have a projector for old school slides upon request.
SATURDAY MARCH 14
09:00 – 16:00
Our goal: To provide a venue to exhibit how models are built to accurately reflect their real world counterparts past or present. Emphasis is placed on sharing information, modeling techniques and most importantly, displaying one’s own models.
This is basically a “Show and Tell” meet where modelers can bring engines, rolling stock, structures, etc. to show and share techniques and to get inspired to finish their projects. There is no model judging. These items need not be in the finished state. This is a chance for interaction between builders and modelers who would like to learn from the models being shown. In other words, an exchange of ideas.

This is a unique opportunity to attend the first-ever joint CPHA-GNRHS convention, and the first-ever national CPHA convention. Nelson, B.C., was chosen as the location based on its rich history for both railroads, worldclass tourism opportunities and the beautiful natural surroundings it affords us all.
While it is eight months away, the convention program is already taking shape and promises to keep you very busy for the duration of the event. We are extremely pleased to report that noted author and historian Robert D. Turner will be joining us as the banquet keynote speaker and guide for the K&S circle prototype tour. The program will also include:
Historic and community tours
Clinics and presentations
Meet-and-greet patio BBQ
CPR models and photo displays
Model railroad layouts
Opportunities to socialize with like-minded people
Events for non-rail partners
With so much to enjoy, we are confident this convention will provide a great time for our members. Watch for more information in future issues of CP TRACKS and on the CPHA website. A Facebook page will also be launched later this fall. Please remember that you must be a member of either CPHA or GNRHS to attend this event. See you there!

Subject: Fwd: Warning from Police This is the thing these days, with people out of work and needing cash (mainly for drugs!). Beware, it's headed your way. Just last weekend on Friday night we parked in a public parking area. As we drove away I noticed a sticker on the rear window of the car. When I got home and took it off, it was a receipt for gas. Luckily my friend had told me not to stop as it could be someone waiting for me to get out of the car. Then we received this email yesterday: WARNING FROM POLICE: THIS APPLIES TO BOTH WOMEN AND MEN. BEWARE OF A PIECE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE (A NEW WAY TO DO CARJACKING!)(NOT A JOKE!) Heads up everyone! Please, keep this circulating. You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. You start the engine and shift into reverse. When you look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into Park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car. And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car! So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised! BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED. If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away. Remove the paper later! And be thankful that you read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and family, especially to women. A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want it to fall into the wrong hands. Please keep this going and tell all your family and friends!
Please come and join us for our yearly open house at the club building. It will be Saturday, November 9th, 2019 from 10-4. See the progress we are making on our new permanent layout and also enjoy trains that will be running on our running layout. See you there!
