FLAMES HOCKEY PARKING: CMT members are always needed. See Brookes to add your name and receive dues reduction for work done.
CHANGE OF MEETING NIGHTS: The April 2013 Hockey Schedule follows, so be aware there is no Wednesday club night on the following Wednesday evenings: April 3, 10, 17. The Business meeting of April 3 will be Thursday, April 4.
THE CHINOOK: The 3-day Model Railroad Meet entitled “THE CHINOOK” was terrific and for those who missed it, it was just GREAT and the price was only $20. Congratulations go to the organizers who planned the event allowing me to celebrate a Birthday than with friends at a Train Meet!
SUPERTRAIN 2013: is approaching for the weekend of April 20-21. Members are wanted to both setup Friday April 19, operators needed during the weekend and for the teardown Sunday evening (April 21) after the show closes. Most of the bugs have been shaken loose thanks to operation at the club. Don’t forget to obtain your Gala dinner tickets for the Saturday evening dinner, this is always a fun – time. Check the SUPERTRAIN web site for details. OPERATORS: Please note preferred mode of dress is the club shirt. I think these are still at $5 each, see President Rodman for details.
CMT 75th ANNIVERSARY: Plans are in “works” to include our fall Open House. Details will follow. I am still seeking input as requested from seeking what you would like to see as part of our Anniversary.
DAY-TRIP TO EDMONTON: This has been postponed until further notice. Vlad wisely postponed this trip shortly before a heavy snow storm hit the Calgary-Edmonton Highway where there was a 100 car accident. Vlad will advise of plans for the same trip.
NORM HAINES: Member of The South Bank Model Railroad Club lost one of their long term members, Norm Haines. You may not have known Norm personally as I have had the priviledge, but he was the Auctioneer for most years at the annual October Model Railroad Auction. In the last 4-5 years he shared duties with other club members. My favorite memory is that he coined the phrase during the Auction of “let’s start bidding on all this neat stuff”
Internet Page:
Miniatur Wunderland (German for miniature
wonderland) is a model railway attraction in Hamburg, Germany and the largest
of its kind in the world. As of January 2011, the railway consists of 12,000
metres (39,370 ft) of track in HO scale, divided into seven sections: Harz, the
fictitious city of Knuffingen, the Alps and Austria, Hamburg, America,
Scandinavia, and Switzerland. Of the 6,400 square metres (68,889 sq ft) of
floorspace, the model takes 1,150 m2 (12,378 sq ft).
By 2020, the exhibit is expected to have reached its final construction phase,
including at least a total of ten sections in a model area of over 2,300 m2
(24,757 sq ft). The next section covering an airport opened in May 2011. The
exhibit includes 890 trains made up of over 11,000 carriages, 300,000 lights,
215,000 trees, and 200,000 human figurines. The creators are planning to work
on models of Italy and France after the airport section
(2) Ever see a real diesel engine get dropped: A brand new American Engineered EMD GT46C-ACe was dropped while being unloaded from the cargo-ship at dock. Not sure of the root cause yet but this one is going to be expensive to fix. The frame is certainly broken and every rotating apparatus can be deemed scrap. Who pays this bill? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eAk2rWjGrE
Penticton Museum 2014 Centennial Request to Clubs
The Penticton Museum is working towards an approximate 15 month long celebration in 2014-2015 of the centennial of the Kettle Valley Railway (KVR) and the S.S. Sicamous sternwheeler on Okanagan Lake. This project is in conjunction with a wider city initiative to promote tourism. The idea is to set up a special convention where model railway layouts would be displayed – much the same idea as the "Trains" show in Burnaby or the Lions Club Chilliwack show. Only, this would be a one-time special event. This won’t be limited to just model railroading, the broader railroad and steam boat scene will also be represented.
If any clubs are interested in participating, please contact me at: kvrailway@shaw.ca Joe Smuin
The November Train Show and Meet is a GO!
We are very pleased to announce that there is a new committee to carry on the long tradition of having the annual November Trains Show and Meet at the Cameron Rec Centre. It is fully expected that all of the usual activities will be a part of this year's event. There are still opportunities for others to get involved with the task of producing this event, so if you are interested in helping in any way, please contact either the Trains committee chairman Peter Mueller or Russ Watson . Here is a real slick idea for
